Today we went for a drive
in Jacque’s large BMW 4WD, along the western coast, on the southern side of the
River Loire. We first went to see a property owned by one of Jacque’s friends,
used for duck hunting. Jacques does a little duck shooting here every year. The
property is also used as a small hobby farm and it was nice to check this out.
They have chickens free ranging everywhere as well as a barn, full of lambs and
pens of geese. We spent quite some time exploring the grounds and bird
spotting. We then continued on to a nearby restaurant that specialises in
growing nearly all of the produce it uses, in a large and very attractive
vegetable garden at the front. Needless to say, the meal was excellent.
Afterwards we met the restaurant’s owner, a friend of Jacques, whose family
spends a considerable amount of time in Australia. We then continued along the Atlantic
coast through Pornic, then east to Paimbeouf, beside the Canal Maritime to La
Pellerin, where we crossed the river, then back to Nantes and home for another
excellent evening meal.
