For the next two days, we had been in a bit of a
panic, as we had no accommodation and it was a long weekend, meaning most
accommodation was booked out. Fortunately, Jacques and Fanfa offered us their
apartment in La Baule, as it was not being used over the weekend. En route we
passed through San Joachim, a town in the middle of the Parc Naturel régional
de la Brière. This national park is
famous for its marais, which are large tracts of wetlands, interspersed with
islands and towns, which could once only be accessed by boat. Here we booked a
boat tour for tomorrow. We arrived in La Baule, a seaside strip not unlike what
one would find on the Gold Coast – not exactly my cup of tea but very nice all
the same. We located the apartment block and managed to snag a parking spot
right out the front on the esplanade. The 7th floor apartment has
million dollar views – from the windows all you can see is the seaside
panorama, without other buildings. We visited a local fish shop, recommended to
us by Fanfa, and bought provisions for dinner, namely langoustines. These are
like prawn sized lobsters, which turned out to be very nice indeed.
