I
next had my sights set on Edinburgh! I really wanted to go to there as my mum
and aunt Patsy spent quite some time there in their youth and I had only ever heard
good things about it. The train trip took ~4.5 hours from central London and I
was in Edinburgh by 3.30pm.

The hostel I’d selected was a short stroll from
Waverly Station, located in the old town. One of the things I quickly picked up
on is that a number of roads in the old town area are set at different levels,
so I took a rather round-a-bout route to my hostel.

I was reasonably happy with
the hostel, although it was very large and did seem a bit tight, with
everything designed to take your money. For instance, most of the places I’ve
stayed thus far have included complimentary breakfast and tea/coffee, whereas
here they could only be purchased. I also found that being right in the old
town meant prices for basic groceries were quite high. The Hostel had a
restaurant/bar located on its ground floor with everything reasonably priced,
so I chilled there for the evening and organised the particulars for my forward
travels.
