This
week has consisted of lots and lots of language learning. I I'd be lying if I
said that I wasn't finding it quite difficult. That's not to say that I'm not
enjoying it though. We started the week going over material from the previous
course, looking more at the genitive and partitive cases – these are probably the
two cases that I'm having most difficulty with. Often the genitive and
partitive forms a word are not formed according to any rules which means it all
has to be memorised. So I think I more-or-less get how the grammar system works,
it's just a matter of continuing to practice everything so I can recall all of
the irregular forms of words and use them. The teacher is really good and has
been helping me a lot. A few people have now said that the most commonly used
words tend to be the ones with irregular forms. I quite like the way my uncle
put it, in that the words can be compared to shoes or jumpers – the more they
are used, the more worn and misshapen they become. So, once one has learnt
those irregular forms, it is easier to go on and do more complex things.
