After having a very good breakfast at our hotel, we set out towards Berlin. We had thought it would be nice to take some minor roads to begin with, but it seems that all roads lead to an autobahn. We made very swift progress thereafter, as the German autobahn network allows one to get from one place to another in very short periods of time. We settled in to the youth hostel and were keen to get out and about and familiarise ourselves with the public transport system. We had read that bus lines 100 and 200 go past a number of the main tourist attractions, departing from Potsdam train station, which should have been quite a short distance away. Half an hour later, we arrived at Potsdam station, to find out that we were now on the outer fringe of greater Berlin… It turned out that the station we wanted was Potsdam Platz, a mere three stops from the central station. Eventually we found the 200 and stayed on it to its terminus at Alexander Platz. Now 8pm, we decided to have dinner at the nearest restaurant, an Italian place called Romantica. The food turned out to be extremely good and it was a most enjoyable experience.
