Once we had said our farewells to Alan and Chrystel we set off towards our next destination in Soulme, Belgium. By afternoon we had made it to our destination and were very warmly greeted by Charles and Jacqueline Toussaint, with whom we would be staying with for the following two nights. The township of Soulme is very small and clearly dependent on agriculture. Charles and Jacqueline live in a converted schoolhouse of some three levels, with a lovely large backyard in which they grow a number of cold climate vegetables including witlof and strawberries. After an in depth conversation about Belgium’s seemingly troubled political situation, we went for an extremely scenic drive along the river Meuse to Dinant whose cliff top citadel (which was unfortunately closed), cathedral and riverside location making it a somewhat spectacular township.
We then made our way home for a traditional Belgium dinner, the highlight of which (apart from the food, of course) was a trip down to the large cellar where Charles stores his large collection of various wines and beers.
